Keep time with military precision while adding a unique edge to your wardrobe with the Citizen Eco-Drive Men's Chronograph Canvas Watch. Featuring the clean look and the rugged dependability of a stainless steel case and bezel, this timepiece relies on the unique Citizen Eco-Drive movement system, so you never need to replace its battery. Eco-Drive is an advanced, technical system that uses a thin solar panel under the dial to convert light energy from any source into electrical energy used to run your watch. Also playing a key role in this unique system is a special energy storage cell that greatly increases the efficiency and dependability of using light as a power source. As an added benefit, Eco-Drive power doesn't utilize the harmful chemicals contained in traditional batteries, so it's an excellent environmental choice as well.

The watch features a black dial with easy-to-read Arabic numerals in white, a convenient date window at four o'clock, a slim second tracker on the outer dial, and three subdials that provide chronograph functionality along with the ability to track hours on a 24-hour scale. The dial is further offset with luminescent minute and hour hands and a sweeping red seconds hand. Even the cool canvas band on this watch offers ultra-detailed construction. In addition to featuring a sturdy buckle clasp that relies on steel-reinforced eyelets, the band is backed with leather, which provides added durability and results in a pleasant feel against your wrist. This versatile men's watch is water resistant to 330 feet.

*Charging information: Functions of this watch may not work correctly if the watch is not charged, or charged properly. Please see the full Technical Information.

To set the time *(refer to full-setting instructions here: Manual ):
  1. Pull the crown out to the time correction position when the second hand has reached the 0 seconds position.
  2. Turn the crown to set the time. The 24-hour hand moves in conjunction with the hour hand. Pay attention to AM and PM when setting the time.
  3. Securely return the crown to the normal position in synchronization with a telephone or other time service.

To set the date:
  1. Pull the crown out to the date correction position.
  2. Turn the crown to the right to set the date. The crown turns freely and the date does not change if the crown is turned to the left.
  3. If the date is set while the time on the watch is between the hours of about 9:00 PM and 1:00 AM, the date may not change on the following day. If this happens, set the date after temporarily moving the hands to a time other than between the above times.

Using the Chronograph*:

The chronograph function of this watch is able to measure and display elasped time up to 59 minutes, 59 seconds in 1 second units. After 60 minutes have elasped, each of the chronograph hands automatically stop at the 12:00 position.

    Chronograph Timing:
  1. Start timing by pressing button (A). The chronograph is repeatedly started and stopped by pressing button (A).
  2. Pressing button (B) resets the chronograph to 0 seconds.
*Note: Do not subject the chronograph to strong impacts while chronograph timing is in progress. Subjecting the watch to a strong impact during chronograph timing or when the chronograph has stopped automatically after 60 minutes have elasped can cause the chronograph minute hand to shift out of position. If this happens, press button (B) to reset to the 12:00 position before using the chronograph again.

"Great watch, but has a very small strap" 2010-03-17
By Harry Morningwood (Mass)
I've owned this watch for about 3 months and the watch has functioned well in every aspect. The one drawback being the size of the strap and the placement of the rivet holes on the band itself. My wrist is about 7 1/2" and I have to use the second to last rivet hole on the band. If you have a 8" wrist or larger you will have to change the band or find a different watch as this one will not fit you. The band almost seems like a "youth" sized band. With that being said I really love this watch. The fact that it doesn't run on a battery or need to be worn to work (i.e. automatics) was a big selling point for me. I own battery powered quartz movements along with mechanical and automatics so I was looking for something different and I found it with this watch. The watch keeps excellent time and has a very long reserve power supply. Also very easy to read even in low light conditions.

"Good casual watch...change the band" 2010-03-07
By Steven A. Delvecchio (NY United States)
Nice watch after you give it a good charge. Chronograph works nicely. Changed the band to a Hadley-Roma Men's 20-mm Black Carbon Fiber With Leather Backing Watch Strap #MSM840RA-200...now it looks and feels like it should,..4 stars because I had to do the band change (another $20), otherwise I would have gone with 5.

"Decent watch if you have a slim wrist" 2010-03-01
By apex
I probably should have paid more attention to the other reviews of this watch, but it looked so nice in the pictures and was rated highly by other reviewers that I bought it, despite some reviewers saying the band was short. Well the band is VERY SHORT. It is not like I have a super thick wrist but the strap was on its last hole for me. Plus, the holes have metal grommets so the holes are farther apart than on most watch bands, limiting fit choices. Sure, I could have swithed bands, but I liked the cloth--that is why I bought the watch. Also, I saw a Citizen replacement cloth strap and it is $70!!! I was not going to throw away such an expensive strap. Finally, the watch face is totally flat--no depth at all--so it looks cheaper in person than in the pictures. For a couple of reasons, therefore, I can't recommend this watch. If you do like it, be sure you have a small wrist.

"Watch is Great...band not so much" 2010-02-25

The Eco-Drive chronograph canvas is everything I expected...nice timepiece with simplistic yet stylish good looks. As with other reviews...unless you have an exceptionally small wrist have another band ready. I had pre-purchased a zulu military green band that fits the bill perfectly.

 "Great Every Day Watch" 2010-02-18
By T. Fleming
I got this watch two months ago for Christmas. Since then I have been really happy with it. The militaristic look is a cool contrast to my clean cut/ modern wardrobe. I have only worn metal bands in the past, but the canvas/ leather one is really comfortable. And I like that I can adjust the size when my writs swells in the heat.

The chronograph is good, and I like how the large red second hand is the stop-watch second hand. I have noticed that when I zero the chronograph, the red second hand naturally rests between 59 and 00 seconds. This kind of annoys me, but not enough to take it in for repair.

If I could, I would make two changes to the watch. I would rather the 24 hour dial on the face be a second time zone. And it would be cool if when you hold the reset "B" button, it showed the percentage charge of the battery. Then this would be the perfect watch!

As for the battery, I live in Canada. I spend less than an hour a day outside, and always wear long sleeves and a coat. I have had no problem maintaining the battery at full change.

Overall: great watch for the price!

 "Great watch!" 2010-03-04
By TJ (Midwest)
Just recieved this watch, so this is first impressions only! The watch seems very well made, like the classic military watches of the WWII era. Thin, light, tough, and a simple design.

Pros: Well made, simple layout, easy to read, Solar powered!, thin profile, accurate (it seems).

Improvements: The band.. reading reviews, you like it or hate it. I prefer a 22mm band width... I took of the 18mm canvas strap and put this watch on a 'the band' velcro band that was actually 22mm, but that is worn and fits fine. That allows me to use this watch on a wider, more comfortable, velcro band.

Also, my seconds hands do not line up with the tick marks. This seems like a common problem among about 1/2 the reviews. I know some very high end watches even have this problem, but it still bugs me. I have ordered another one, just to see if I get one that is perfect.

Other suggestion, is the watch is pretty small in diameter. I prefer bigger watches and I think this watch would be great in a larger diameter.. but I can't hold that against it. If you have a smaller wrist and want a tough watch, this would fit the bill!

Overall, a very nice watch, especially for the price!

"I like the look and feel" 2010-03-01
By Dick
I had the Citizen Eco-Drive Canvas Strap Watch for four months. A simple watch was what I wanted to easily read the time and date. I thought about getting a fancy chronograph or slide rule but I figured I would seldom use them so all that extra clutter would take up space most of the time. The numbers are larger than what I'm used to but I have gotten used to them. It is silent so those clock ticking sound lovers should take note of it. The second hand doesn't always align with the lines perfectly but it's not enough to make me complain. The date needs to be adjusted every month or two. The instructions says to only change the date within a certain period of the day so the moving parts inside would not be damage. If I am in between 9pm and 4am and being impatient, what I do is change the time to be outside of the damage range, change the date, and then change the time back. Just remember that if you move back the time far enough, it may change the date by one day so you'd have to redo it again.

I bumped my watch on many hard surfaces and no cracks or scratches. I can't say it's without any blemishes but you'd have to be examine close enough to spot them. I don't remember the last time I adjusted the time. Maybe a month ago? I usually try to time it with the atomic clock online. It's about thirty seconds off since I last adjusted it. I could have been lazy the last time and not use the atomic clock. But now that it's the end of the month, I'd have to change the date and just re-sync the time after that. I also like the illumination. Even in an area where it's not brightly lit but still have adequate lighting, the hands will glow. Useful in the dark but I haven't timed how long it lasts before it loses the glow.

Last thing I will talk about is the infamous strap. It does have a leather lining on the inside so it's comfortable to wear. It was stiff at first but after a few days, the strap became more flexible. The stiffness wasn't really a big problem to begin with. I've read complaints about the odor. I sweat in it all the time and got it wet from the rain and sink and it doesn't smell. However, there are no hot summer days here to test the full out sweat-fest. The metal grommets are a problem though. I don't mind the appearance. One is a tad loose and the other is tight. Over time, I notice the timepiece is sliding more to the side of my wrist. My wrist is already thin. Either my wrist is getting skinnier or the strap somehow stretched. I may have to move the watch back to the center of my wrist a few times a day. It can be inconvenient if I'm holding on to something and can't twist my wrist far enough to read the time.

I still love my watch though. I'm not worried if it doesn't match with what I'm wearing. I'm satisfied of its lower price than other Citizen watches and I don't want to change multiple batteries over the years so I hope this canvas watch will be functional for a long time with its Eco-Drive technology.

 "Nice medium-sized watch" 2010-02-28
By apophenier (Fair Oaks, CA United States)
Great value in a mid-sized watch. Very, very legible, easy to read at a glance with mediocre eyes. Attractive simple face. Good lume.

At 37mm, this is not a large watch. It is relatively thin, it stays out of the way and easily slides under my sleeve.

Leather backing on band may be annoying in warm weather. Band is shortish - second hole on my 7 1/4" wrist. 18 mm lugs limit aftermarket band choices - Maratac Mil spec. works well.

 "3 Month Review" 2010-02-28
By Matt
I've owned the watch for 3 months and worn it every day. Just today I swapped out the band for a 4$ WalMart black 1-piece (similar to the maratac ones). I'm glad I switched bands. I tried to live with it after reading all the negative reviews, but it was sort of getting on my nerves. As you've probably read before, the metal grommets are too large, so 1 eyelet will be too loose, leading to the watch "leaning" away from the center of your wrist. And the next one will be too tight. The watch has been very accurate. It's comfortable for being a metal piece. The illumination is awesome. I am someone who has always worn Casio or Timex's, and this glow is so much better. Just stepping outside for a minute in cloudy weather is enough to make it glow pretty bright. Another great thing is that it is completely silent. You can't hear the ticking at all.

The only cons I can see with this watch is you have to occasionally readjust the date; and of course the band.

"Perfect watch for my tiny wrist." 2010-02-24
By Nuno Miguel Pereira Patrocinio (Orlando, FL)
I was looking for a cool watch to wear at all times. I got looking for the perfect one, didn't want to buy one that it was too bigger - in dial and wristband, and didn't want to buy one which was too heavy.

The watch is very light, basically you don't feel you're wearing him, and I didn't wear a watch since 2000. I'm very happy I decided to buy this watch and since I don't have to worry myself about batteries, this is a very faulty-proof watch.

"Nice Watch, But Take Care of the Finish" 2008-09-26
By James Reese (Atlanta, GA USA)
I received this watch as a gift from my mother three years ago for Christmas. My adult son also received the same model of watch. First of all, I must say that the watch has always been very accurate, to within 15 seconds a month when compared to the atomic clock in Boulder, CO. It has a beautiful goldtone finish; however, this is not a finish that can be exposed to a lot of water. My son kept his on in the shower and while swimming, and the goldtone finish dulled considerably. The finish on my watch remains perfect, because I don't expose it to water. My only other, but very minor, criticism is that the second hand is off a "hair" in regard to indexing with the second/minute marks around the face of the watch. I believe that all quartz watches should index perfectly, and I have a Citizen Eco-Drive military style watch that does just that. This is, however, a beautiful watch that keeps accurate time. Just remember that it is a "dress watch," and not a "sport watch." The face has luminous hour dots, and the hands are also luminous, and you can see the time in the dark if your watch has recently had the luminous paint "charged" by light, i.e., sunlight or strong artificial light. The watch isn't noticeably heavy, and it is fairly thin. If you want a nice "dress watch," then this is probably your timepiece. If you want a "sport watch," get one with a stainless steel case and band, and leave this one in your valet until you return from your outdoor activities.

 "Great watch!" 2007-12-28
By E. Miller
Love this watch! I bought this for my husband's wedding gift from me and had it engraved. ONLY complaint is that Citizen has their design all over the back face of it so makes it impossible to write on, so if I remember right, they replaced the back with a different one so it could be engraved. I am sure this voided the warranty, but no problems and we have had this watch 4.5 years. Beautiful watch and very sturdy! Price I bought at was 200.00 so it still retains a good price!

 "A pleasure to own." 2005-10-17
By Hoc Stercus (Hudson, NY USA)
About two years ago a friend showed me this watch and began extolling its virtues. I ended up buying one for myself; and I have to say I am most pleased with my purchase. The most desirable feature is the "Eco Drive." This means the watch never has to be rewound, and batteries never have to be replaced, since the power comes from concealed photo-voltaic cells. For over a year this watch has given me excellent service without any problem whatsoever. It keeps excellent time. About the only occasion I have need to adjust the hour and minute is when we go on and off daylight savings time. It has a very attractive appearance that wears well. After a year of daily use, it still looks practically brand new. If this instrument should fail some time in the future, I will be replacing it with one just like it. Incidentally, the price at this site is nearly 50% cheaper than what the local department stores are charging.

 "Awesome Watch" 2009-12-10

Bought the watch in Nov, 2009. Works great. Slightly heavy, but fits well on my wrist. Am yet to check out all the features on the watch. Dual time displays are great and so is the A-T. Will update the review later again. Amazon's free shipping had the watch delivered in exactly 5 days. 5 stars from me.

PS - Watch the price on this. It goes up and down and then back up. Find the right time to buy and save a good 10-15% on it.

 "Overall, a great watch" 2009-10-30
By Real Product Owner (USA)
This watch is a great buy for the money. I bought the watch for ~$400 USD due to a math/discount error at a local jeweler. The dials are mostly easy to read, no need for a battery, dual time zone without any button presses, and atomic sync are why I bought the watch. It delivers on all these promises. The watch appears to be of quality construction and came with a 5 year manufacturer warranty. One thing I did not realize (or check prior to purchase) is that there is no way to know the date by simply looking at the watch face. For a watch that has so many dials why isn't there a date box like my $18 Casio?

Overall, a great watch, I would recommend to friends or anyone who asked. If you ever need to know the date immediately, do not buy this watch.

 "Best watch ever!" 2009-10-06
By Joe (Brisbane, Australia)
I have had the Citizen Skyhawk AT atomic watch for a year now and have never been more satisfied with a watch. My previous watch was an Omega Speedmaster which was heavy and clunky and lost a minute every day. I began to get seriously interested in buying a watch with extreme accuracy. Living in Australia, I thought an atomic radio controlled watch was out of the question because we don't have any atomic time signals broadcast here. When I tried to research accuracy in watches I discovered the term used for an accurate watch is a chronometer and the most accurate watches in the world were made by Breitling, particularly their SuperQuartz models. However these cost A$5000.00 or more which is a bit of a stretch for the wallet. And then, to my surprise, I discovered a website where people in Australia were posting that their atomic watches/clocks were picking up a time signal from overseas. A pilot here in Brisbane posted a great review about his Citizen Skyhawk AT and said his watch regularly picked up the Japanese time signal at night. As soon as I read his post, I bought one too and I haven't looked back.

Pros:

What I love most about this watch is that it's set and forget - being radio-controlled I never have to adjust the time, ever, period! And it has atomic accuracy - way more accurate than the Breitling SuperQuartz watches which still loose 15 seconds a year - at a fraction of the price.

I have received many compliments on my watch from family and co-workers alike. The watch has a very attractive, large dial - more impressive even then in photos and pictures online. The stainless steel bracelet is very durable and some say heavy, but although I only have a small wrist I found the watch very comfortable to wear and did not feel inconvenienced by it in any way.

The mineral glass is very strong and completely resistant to scratches - mind you, I work in an office so it's not in the way of harm very often but I haven't had a single scratch on it in over a year.

I love the build quality of this watch - it is pure class!

The solar powered battery works without requiring any full sunlight. Ambient light alone is enough to keep it running at full capacity.

I love the beautiful presentation box it came in - it doubles as a nice stand for my watch at bedtime.

Cons:

The hardest part in setting up the watch was adjusting the bracelet to fit my wrist. The links were hard to remove and it took a good hour or so for me to get it right.

Just like another reviewer here said, I wish they had used time zones rather than cities as my city is too small to rate a mention. Pilots might prefer time zones too.

Some people have worried about the crown wearing out from repeated setting of certain functions and although that's possible, I almost never use mine like this at all so I am not in the slightest bit worried about this.

Wish list:

I would love for the LCD to be bigger. Not only just to make it more readable but so that it can show the date and the time simultaneously - it seems a real shame to waste such fabulous atomic accuracy on the analogue display alone, just so I can see the date. Please Citizen - make it a dual analogue/digital time display with extra room for the date too, next time around!!

Arrived on time. The setup instructions were easy to follow. Charging did not take long. Have to place watch near east facing window of my apt to receive signal. I live in downtown San Fran in the middle of large buildings. Watch wears nice, doesn't feel heavy or too big on my small wrist. I actually prefer having to pull out the crown to change the functions on this watch. I own another Citizen chrono which requires just rotating the crown to change from time-chrono-alarm, and sometimes when that watch moves on my wrist, the crown rotates.
