I recently purchased this watch to replace a nearly identical Citizen watch that I had for about 23 years and LOVED. However, after only about two weeks, this new watch had water inside it. I took it back to the jeweler's where I had purchased it, they cleaned it out, and within two days it had water in it again. They told me it was only water resistant, not waterproof, which I already knew. The watch had not been subjected to any water at all except a few sprinkles of spray from washing hands a few times that was immediately dried off. I explained to the jeweler's that a water resistant watch should tolerate that kind of normal, daily use, and they agreed. They shipped the watch back to the manufacturer, who charged $76 plus $10 shipping to replace the inside parts which were rusty. They did not cover anything under warranty even though the watch was only a month old. They furthermore explained that (contrary to what the jeweler told me) the watch is not even water-resistant and cannot tolerate ANY moisture at all. They said to take the watch off when washing hands. Given my experience, even doing that and leaving it on the sink counter would not be adequate, nor would wearing it on a rainy or even a humid day. I just wasted $135 on a watch I can't even wear and can't return, either. Citizen knows how to make good watches (at least they used to), but they did a very poor design job on this one.

Today is a sad day. After 17 years I have decided to part with my Citizen EA8522-50P watch. My mom gave me this watch 17 years ago, when I was 15 and it has been worn daily since. At times I have sat on it, dropped it, dropped things on it, stepped on it, submerged it in water, and more. This watch has withstood the test of time. Daily wear for 17 years, no kidding. The band has just started to come apart slightly and the watch has begun to discolor a bit from all the wear. It still looks okay, but not fresh. I am definitely going to replace it with another Citizen. Like the saying goes "Citizen -it takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin.' A fabulous watch. Very elegant bangle design with a super sturdy clasp too. The dial is small though so if you have poor eyesight or need numbers then upgrade to a different model.
